Clansman PRC-319 SAS Special Forces HF/VHF Man-Pack Radio
The Clansman PRC-319 is a real Spy Radio as used by the British Special Forces (SAS) in England as well as USA, Australia, and New Zealand. There were only 350 units manufactured for use in England by MEL.

The PRC-319 is a 50 Watt modern microprocessor based radio transceiver that transmits in both the HF and VHF bands, up to Aircraft frequencies for ground to air communications. Frequency range is 1.5 to 40 MHz with LCD frequency readout. The Electronic Message Unit EMU is a small alphanumeric keyboard that allows transmission of written words when voice transmissions would be dangerous, as well as data, coordinates, and direct communication with fire control and direction computers. The PRC-319 is also a burst transmitter which can store messages for up to 500 hours before automatically transmitting it at a high data rate. The radio can be operated by remote control from up to 50 meters away. The burst transmission feature allows considerable security over conventional radios. Transmitting range is 20Km with short antenna and up to 5000Km with a whip antenna. The radio operates from a 24VDC standard Clansman battery.The equipment and accessories are supplied in very good condition, tested and operational.

The Counterpoise Antenna provides an artificial earth for all antennas when used on ground of poor conductivity, such as desert of frozen snow and ice, and should always be used with the ground wave vertical or end feed antennas. In use the wires are spread radially around the radios such as a Clansman PRC-320 and the short lead from the main spool connected to the earth terminal of the radio. The counterpoise Antenna should always be used if doubtful about the ground conditions. Using this counterpoise antenna often improves the radios performance. Supplied in good condition.

The Clansman PRC-349 is a modern synthesised VHF/FM radio Frequency range is 37 to 46.95 MHz in 25 KHz spacing providing 400 possible channels and a maximum output power of 1 Watt. Frequency selection by 3 small thumb wheel knobs on the side of the radio which can be operated even while the operator is wearing Arctic mittens, or in the dark by counting clicks from the end-stops. The metal battery pack is supplied in used condition and may not last for long. However as they are metal construction with the top riveted on they can be taken apart for cell replacement.

Clansman PRC-351 / PRC-352 20 Watt RF Power Amplifier
The Clansman PRC-351 / PRC-352 20 Watt RF Power Amplifier effectively upgrades the 4 Watt output of Clansman PRC-351 to a 20 Watt PRC-352 Radio.

Operating frequency of this RF amplifier is in the VHF band of 30-76 Mhz in 3 selectable ranges: 30-40 Mhz, 40-55 Mhz, 55-76 Mhz. Requires 24 VDC to operate.

The amplifier can not be used on high power transmit using the radios normal whip antenna and instead a Ground-Spike Antenna is used. The amplifier can only be used on high power as a fixed radio station or in a vehicle using the vehicles antenna system. For mobile man-pack operations the battle antenna is fitted and the radio is operated on low power bypassing the amplifier as a PRC-351.

This is the Clansman VRC-351M Back-Pack Radio that was mainly used by the Royal Marines. The radio is basically a PRC-351 that has been upgraded to work with the Clansman BID system, British Inter Departmental. The BID system is some sort of army voice or data encryption system? that is still secret and unavailable.

The upgrade is a interface board connected internally to one of the audio sockets of the PRC-351 which now acts as the BID interface. The radio can still be used as a normal PRC-351 with-out the BID system attached.The PRC-351M is a 4 Watt portable VHF (FM) Radio, made by RACAL BCC Ltd. in England. The PRC-351M has been designed to provide command communications at battalion and company level for dismounted troops. It was also used in vehicles by mounted troops.

Frequency Range 30 to 76.000 MHz in 25 Khz steps giving a total of 1841 programmable channels. The desired frequency is set by four knobs on the side of the radio which can be operated even while the operator is wearing Arctic mittens, or in the dark by counting clicks from the end-stops.

Clansman RT-320 / PRC-320 30 Watt HF Transceiver
The Clansman RT-320 / PRC320 is a lightweight HF/SSB radio station designed as part of the British Army's Clansman range of radio equipments for combat use throughout the world. It was used by long-range patrols and Special Forces because of its sky-wave range performance and hand generator system.
The equipment operates in the 2 to 30 MHz band with 100 Hz channel spacing, which gives a choice of 280 000 frequencies. Selection is by decade knobs which control a micro-miniature synthesizer locked to a temperature compensated reference oscillator, giving a high order of stability under all environmental conditions.

Clansman RT-350 / PRC-350 VHF/FM Man-Pack Radio
The Clansman RT-350 / PRC-350 is a narrow-band FM VHF man-pack radio that operates from 36-57MHz in 2KHz steps, total of 841 programmable channels with 2 Watts output. The radio operates from a 15VDC battery pack. The desired frequency is set by four knobs on the side of the radio which can be operated even while the operator is wearing Arctic mittens, or in the dark by counting clicks from the end-stops.

Having set the four frequency control knobs the operator has then to set the only remaining control, the system switch, to one of its four positions: Off, Whisper, Loud and Noise-On.

In the Whisper position the audio output is reduced by a factor of 10 and the microphone sensitivity is increased by about the same amount. This position is used in situations close to the enemy where a minimum amount of noise is desirable.

The Loud position enables the set to be used in conditions of high ambient noise levels, such as may be encountered in active service.

Noise-On position the squelch or muting circuit is disabled and receiver noise is heard in the absence of a signal.

The optional accessories include a Terylene harness for carrying the set on the hip or back, Battery Pack, Flexible Antenna & 2 meter Long Whip Antenna.

Normally the 2 Meter Whip Antenna is used and a rotating mounting socket on the set enables the rod to be rotated rough 90? when the operator is lying down. The headset and handset provided with the complete station can be connected to the set at the same time to enable an officer or a second operator to monitor the radio.

Frequency Range 30 to 76.000 MHz in 25 Khz steps giving a total of 1841 programmable channels. The desired frequency is set by four knobs on the side of the radio which can be operated even while the operator is wearing Arctic mittens, or in the dark by counting clicks from the end-stops.

A Whisper mode is provided for use when quiet conditions are essential. In this mode the receiver's audio output volume is reduced and the microphone sensitivity is increased. A Loud mode is also provided for operation in noisy environments as well as a Noise-On switch position which allows the radio to operate with the squelch in the off mode.

Local Squelch facility by either 150 Hz tone modulation of radiated signal, or by 160 Hz superimposed on receive signal. Auto-Rebroadcast operates on 150Hz Modulated receive signal.

Output power of the radio is 20 Watts into a 50 Ohm load using the RF amplifier. The amplifier can not be used on high power transmit using the radios normal whip antenna and instead a Ground-Spike Antenna is used. The amplifier can only be used on high power as a fixed radio station or in a vehicle using the vehicles antenna system. For mobile man-pack operations the battle antenna is fitted and the radio is operated on low power bypassing the amplifier as a PRC-351.

If more than one radio set is used in close proximately a Selective Unit RF 4 Watt SURF should be installed on top of the PRC-352 radio and used on low power. The SURF prevents one radio interfering with the other radio. The SURF is then tuned to give optimum performance and achieve maximum range with the radio set.

The radio is powered by a standard Clansman 24 Volt battery pack. The battery clips on to the bottom of the radio. The radio can also be powered / recharged with a Hand Generator which clips on between the radio and the battery. It can also be powered externally from Vehicle power supply or a 24 Volt DC Power Supply such as the UK-AC1-2870 14/28 Volt AC Adaptor, connected to the radio with a modified battery extension lead.
Clansman Single Transducer Headset
This Clansman Single Transducer Headset is a lightweight alternative to the normal Clansman handsets or Headset / Throat Microphones combinations. The single transducer is used both as a Microphone and a Speaker!
The Headset incorporates a sensitive microphone which should pick-up your voice while the headset is worn by the operator. The headset can also be used as a handheld microphone. The built-in Speaker and the head strap enables the radio operator to keep both hands free for other tasks while receiving.

The Headset is made from durable flexible rubber to high military specification and is splash proof. It is comfortable to wear and is fixed in position using head straps.

A Pressel switch (Push-To-Talk) is incorporated in the earpiece and is located on top of the unit. The headset can be plugged directly into the Audio or Headset sockets of any Clansman radio or harness control boxes which have a 7 Pin Clansman Audio socket.

The British Army Clansman UK RT-321 / VRC-321 HF system has been designed and developed by MEL Communications Ltd in Crawley, England for mobile or static use. It is primarily designed as an HF vehicle station for mobile ground-wave operation, but can also be used as a ground station or for sky-wave operation over long distances. With the addition of a 250 Watt RF amplifier the station becomes a VRC-322, which is available elsewhere on this website.

This is a British military Clansman RT-344 / PRC-344 UHF Man-pack Transceiver. Made in the late 70's by Siemens Plessey Defense Systems in Christchurch, England and was used by the British Army and the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps.

The PRC-344 is a light weight Solid-State UHF/AM Transmitter/ Receiver operating in the frequency range of 225 to 399.95 MHz band with 50 kHz channel spacing giving a total of 3500 synthesized channels. Channel selection by three decade rotary switches, Controls for mode selection and volume level.

Transmitter output 2.5 Watts with an operational range of greater than 160 km. built in Rescue Homing Beacon facilities. Remote-Control facilities up to 3 km using 2 core wire and Re-broadcast facilities. The radio operates from a standard Clansman 24 Volt battery.

The Clansman PRC-344 was mainly used for ground-to-air links between combat troops and their supporting ground attack aircraft and for control communications for emergency airfields and helicopter landing pads.

Clansman UK RT-353 / VRC-353 50 Watt VHF FM Vehicle Radio
The UK RT-353 / VRC-353 was manufactured by Marconi Space and Defence Systems for the British Armed Forces. The VRC-353 was first introduced in the 1970's and was the worlds most versatile and advanced VHF FM vehicle radio system of it's time, capable of voice and data. It was mainly fitted in Land Rovers, Tanks & FFR vehicles and used as a base station.

Constructed in a die-cast alloy waterproof case, the radio is operationally compatible with the Clansman range of VHF radios as well as the RT-524, PRC-25, PRC-77, VRC-12, SEM-25, SEM-35 and other VHF radio sets.

Clansman UK-IBMU-810 Intelligent Battery Management System IBMS
The Clansman Intelligent Battery Management System IBMS type UK-IBMU-810. Manufactured by Widney Aish Ltd, Poole, England.

The unit is a microprocessor based battery charger and conditioner for Clansman Nickel Cadmium batteries. The system comprises of two main units, The IBMS and the interchangeable battery tray. Depending on the battery tray installed the IBMS is capable of simultaneously charging up to eight different Nickel Cadmium ôNiCdö batteries at the same time.

Power on self test ôBITEö and it can provide independent status reports for all the batteries installed in the battery tray. A tactical operation facility enables all the visual LED indicators to be blacked out and all audible warnings to be stopped while the system is operating under a black out conditions.

The IBMS performs four types of battery management operations: Fast Charging in 5 hours, Slow Charging over 15 hours, Trickle Charging until the battery is removed and Conditioning over 24-70 hours. In addition to battery charging and conditioning operations it can also detect faulty batteries.

The IBMS can be used in a mobile field role ôinstalled in a vehicleö or installed at a base station. The IBMU can operate from any 28 volt DC power supply capable of delivering 6A.
